Story:
A gripping tale, the story is set on the backdrop of a college. Here is Prabhakar Anand (amitabh), the honest and sincere principal responsible for making the college number one in state. He has a loyal disciple in the form of Deepak Kumar (saif). On the other hand, Deepak is in love with Poorbi (Deepika Padukone) and he has a close friend in the form of Sushant Sethi (prateik). All goes well till few incidents happen and the issue of caste, reservations and commercialization of education comes into picture. What happens after that, how each individual relates to others forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a thought provoking storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was impressive. The dialogues were strong and impact creating, the script was above average while the screenplay was the highlight. Background score was good and two songs were upto the mark. Cinematography was eye catching. Editing was sharp but was required during second half. Costumes were natural and realistic while the art department was rich. Amitabh Bachchan has given a powerhouse performance and stands tall. Saif Ali Khan was another competent performer who made his presence felt. Prateik Babbar is a revelation. Deepika Padukone does her bit to score points. The real show stealer was Manoj Bajpai with his intense performance. Shabana Azmi was elegant, Tanvi Azmi was matured, Hema Malini was apt. The others did their bit as required and added value to the film.

Conclusion:
Already, the film has raised quite a furor even before its release and given the fact that it deals with sensitive issues such as caste and reservation, this was bound to happen. However, the way the whole subject is dealt is praiseworthy. While the first half passes off in well tuned manner, the second half slows down due to dragged sequences and brings the momentum down. However, the climax is again riveting. Overall, this is a film meant for the socially conscious and thinking audience and not for entertainment seeking folks. Given the uproar and the star power, the film has it all to score a decent hit.

DownloadsMasti Verdict: Serious, intense and thought provoking!!
